Welcome to Living as Women in A Fallen World. I hope you find that this blog is a place where we, as women, can have an engaging dialogue about issues that are happening to us and affecting our lives.
Why The Blog Name
I began to notice a few years ago that the female students, at the college where I was teaching, were showing significant changes in their attitudes and behavior. This was not just occurring among the 18 to 20 year olds; I also was observing it in female students who were 30+. For the most part, I would find that these students were civil in the classroom, but once they exited the classroom threshold their tone and body language changed. They became more aggressive and confrontational. I began to wonder why. I asked myself why were women treating each other in such a manner?
Then I took a year’s sabbatical and traveled over Asia and Africa conducting stress management training for a Christian NGO’s relief workers.
I ended my sabbatical that year teaching for ABC University in Liberia (where I currently teach). During that time I had the opportunity to talk to women from different cultures and a reoccurring theme occurred – the difficult plight of women and children living in a crazy mixed-up world.
A Fallen World
As I began to process these experiences about what was happening to women around the world I thought I should not be surprised. The book of Genesis explains that when Adam and Eve sinned against God, the result was a broken relationship between humans and God and between human beings. The breaking of these relationships created a fallen world where women often suffer the harshest consequences. We women need to learn how to navigate this fallen world. The good news is that our hope is not in ourselves but in Jesus Christ who came to earth to redeem us (John 3:16). Now that Jesus is resurrected and sits at the right hand of God (Ephesians 1:20), the Holy Spirit has come to lead us into all truths and help us live upright in this world (John 14:26, Romans 15:13, Ephesians 1:13).
Living upright in a fallen world certainly is not as easy as it sounds, and as women we need to come alongside and have a conversation about issues that effect us. I have ideas for all kinds of topics, which include what I am hearing from women around the world. I also would like to hear what topics you would like to discuss. For now, I will be posting topics to discuss bimonthly. These postings will include a Think Through, which will include a scenario or a question to which I hope you will respond.
As women let’s come together and have a vigorous and respectful dialogue with one another.
