One early morning as my husband and I re-entered the U.S. and went through customs, the agent flipped through our passports and with an ironic tone commented, “I can see that you have been to the vacation spots of the world.” We laughed and moved on.
Well perhaps we haven’t been to a lot of vacation spots, but certainly interesting places such as Darfur, S. Sudan, Liberia, D.R. Congo, Cambodia, Nagaland, and the list go on.
Why am I telling you all of this? The reason is that visiting these hot spots did not make me near as nervous as deciding to start my blog, LIVING AS A WOMAN IN A FALLEN WORLD. It took me six months of research and contemplation before I posted my first thoughts. I have now been posting for one year, and I am still asking myself who has any interest in reading my blogs?
As I get ready to start my second year of blogging, I wanted to share some observations.
THE NAME – LIVING AS A WOMAN IN A FALLEN WORLD
I chose the name of my blog because of what I had seen happening to women around the world and because I am a woman. I wondered if the original title was too “in your face” and was thinking about shortening it to LIVING AS A WOMAN. I had planned on doing this when I received two different comments, one right after the other; both readers indicated that it was the title that had enticed them to look at my blog. I think this may be God’s way of saying take a stand and don’t soften the name. What do you think?
GLOBAL READERS
It has been interesting to watch the progression of readers over the last 12 months. One of my hopes was that I would have different people from around the world reading my blog. At first this did not happen, but it is starting to change. Though I don’t know who these people are, WordPress allows me to see the different countries where people have been following consistently. Now if I could just get international readers to post some replies to my blog – I would love to hear your cultural perspective.
MEN WELCOME
Even though this is a blog from a woman’s perspective, I appreciate the men that are reading it. I would also love to hear some of your thoughts, and no, you do not have to use a fake woman’s name!
WHAT ARE YOU THINKING
As perhaps you already can tell, one of my hopes is that I will hear from more of you about what you are thinking, especially when you might disagree or have a different perspective. I know you are busy and I appreciate you even taking time to read my blog, but it would have a richer depth and value if you posted your thoughts. I contemplated not including the Think Through this coming year, but I guess it is the educator in me that just won’t let this go. If nothing else, I hope at times I throw out a provocative question or comment that makes all of us think about the world in which we live.
WORDS THAT CARRY THE MOST VALUE
Last but not least, I feel my best blogs have been those that reflect on God’s word. What I have to say may have little merit, but including God’s word never comes back void. Isaiah speaks of God’s word:
It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it. Isaiah 5:11, NLT
THANK YOU
Let me conclude by saying THANK YOU for taking your precious time to read my blog. I am committed to blogging another year and then we shall see.

By the time you read this blog I should be back in Liberia for another 8 weeks stent. Though I will try to faithfully post on the 1st and 15th, it is the rainy season, and you never know when there may be interference with the satellite that host the internet.

What is a Think Through? it is an idiom that conveys the meaning of carefully considering possibilities and outcomes of a situation
Today’s Think Through:
- Do you think I should shorten the blog name to LIVING AS A WOMAN…?
- What suggestions might you have to improve the blog?
