This week’s Think Through:
A polygamous man and his four wives have become Christians. The pastor of the church, based on his denomination’s stand on polygamy, tells the husband that he cannot be baptized or receive communion in the church until he sends all of the wives away, except for the first wife. The other three wives are sent away with few resources, if any, to help them survive. The husband requires the children to stay with him. To survive the women start to look for other men to live with or remarry. As time passes one of the women ends up living in abject poverty and the other two women have less and less contact with their children. The children feel abandoned by their mothers.
What are your thoughts? Do you agree with the denomination’s stand on polygamy in this setting?
